Taiwan-based LED packaging house, Ledtech Electronics, indicated the future of the LED lighting market is in China and the company will likely begin cooperation with China-based Potevio this July, according to LedTech chairman Frank Liu.
Liu stated that the LED lighting markets in Europe and US have been quiet, and are not contributing much to the development of the market. China, on the other hand, has large domestic demand and great potential for LED lighting systems. The development of indoor LED lighting has been growing rapidly, added Liu. However, the lack of standards in consumer products such as LED light bulbs has been causing a price war among suppliers. Hence, Ledtech has no intention of entering the market of LED lighting for homes.
Ledtech will focus on large-scale projects such as lighting systems for businesses, Liu stated. Ledtech has been in contact with many traditional lighting firms that have abundant distribution channels in the hope of establishing long-term partnerships, according to Liu.
Liu indicated the possible cooperation with Potevio is still in progress, hopefully the large-scale LED projects will be revealed in July. Liu added that Ledtech will perform much better in the second half of 2011 with increasing sales and he anticipates total revenues this year will outperform previous years.
